Delhi’s BLK-Max Hospital Extends Medical Expertise in Jammu with Launch of Nephrology, Urology & Renal Transplant OPD in the Region

The OPD has been opened in association with SDDM Hospital  • Super Specialists - Nephrology, Urology & RenalTransplant, from Delhi will visit the OPD each month for consultations

Jammu, July 29, 2021: Delhi’s renowned 650-bed BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, today launched its Nephrology, Urology & Renal Transplant OPD Services in Jammu in partnership with the city-based SDDM Hospital. The OPD launch is yet another patient-centric step taken by the healthcare provider to empower patients with accessibility to quality healthcare services. The facility will provide expert advice and treatment for Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD) and renal disorders as well as the urinary-tract system and male reproductive organs.

The OPD services were launched by Dr H. S. Bhatyal, Director, Urology & Renal Transplantation, and Dr Vishal Saxena, Director, Nephrology & Renal Transplant, BLK-Max Centre for Renal Sciences & Kidney Transplant. The doctors will be visiting SDDM Hospital for OPD every month for consultation.

At the launch, Dr H. S. Bhatyal said, “In India, the prevalence of CKD and urological problems and the incidence of end-stage renal disease is very high. The need for basic urology services such as transurethral resection of prostate, transurethral resection of bladder tumour, ureteroscopy/ RIRS, percutaneous nephrolithotripsy and basic surgeries such as nephrectomy, pyeloplasty and urethroplasties of various types, laparoscopic surgeries and robotic surgeries have also become the need of the hour even in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. With the launch of this OPD services, patients across age groups, socio-economic backgrounds, etc. can avail the best consultation and treatment in Jammu and nearby regions, without the inconvenience of travelling to another city”.

Dr Vishal Saxena said, “People often come to us with pain, weight loss and poor appetite, swollen ankles, feet or hands, puffiness under the eyes, shortness of breath, tiredness, blood in urine, an increased need to urinate, particularly at night, difficulty sleeping, dry and itchy skin and other symptoms of CKD. These symptoms may vary in their severity from person to person. Prevention plays a pivotal role here. This is because treating a CKD patient is more expensive than preventing the disease altogether or curbing it in the initial stages.  Regular health check-ups for screening of such conditions in the early phase are a must as this will not only help reduce the financial burden on the patient but also on the society, as a whole.”

BLK-Max Centre for Renal Sciences & Kidney Transplant has a dedicated unit with most the advanced dialysis machines, offering round-the-clock service with the facility for Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) for hemo-dynamically unstable patients and Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD). Isolation rooms dedicated to Hepatitis B & C patients are at par with global standards.

Dr H. S. Bhatyal added, “The twin problems of urologists to population ratio and limitation of availability of urologists to big cities have always been a matter of concern. With this OPD we hope to be able to reach many people who are afflicted with urological issues as an uneven distribution of urologists is a universal phenomenon and is seen even in the most developed countries. It is estimated that prevalence of end-stage renal disease requiring transplantation in India is between 151 and 232 per million population which translates to almost 220,000 people requiring kidney transplantation. Against this, currently, approximately 7500 kidney transplantations are performed at 250 kidney transplant centers. Through the launch of this OPD service, the people from Jammu will get access the best-in-class services and we will raise awareness about renal transplant and urologic disorders.”

With the launch of the OPD services in Jammu, the unit will be able to serve more patients in the city and nearby region. The hospital has already established itself as a tertiary care facility with its state-of-the-art technology and a blend of the finest medical and surgical skills. Now, their focus is to cater to people in other cities so that the access to healthcare and thereby quality of life becomes better. The hospital is equipped with the state-of-the-art infrastructure, operation theatres, highly qualified nursing and support staff along with internationally trained clinicians who are considered among the best in the country. The focus towards improving the techniques and technologies has made surgeries safe, cost-effective, and at par with world standards.

Management of SDDM Hospital said, “We are really happy to have collaborated with one of the finest Nephrology, Urology and Renal Transplant Centers in the country.  We endeavour to provide the masses access to the best of the technology. We strive to raise awareness about CKD, urology and related diseases and their direct effects on the normal day-to-day functioning of an individual. We hope that with the latest available treatment and technology, from BLK-Max Hospital, our local residents will be immensely benefitted, especially for whom travel to other cities was an impediment in the way of their treatment.”

Over the past years, BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, PusaRoad has been actively working towards offering international standards of healthcare facilities in different regions across the country.
