Dr. Kapil Sharma

Jordan, the super obese guy had weight loss surgery. He had lost around 20 KG of weight. He started facing difficulty in swallowing, which progressed to complete dysphagia. He was not able to drink even water and he began to have sleepless nights because of regurgitation

After endoscopy, Manometry, and Barium he was detected to have Type 2 Achalasia Cardia.

He was given the option of intestinal bypass surgery  and Per oral Endoscopic Myotomy. He Underwent per Oral Endoscopic myotomy

Then he travelled to India for treatment and visited Dr Kapil Sharma Director gastroenterology & Head Endoscopy treatment, Sarvodaya Hospital ,Faridabad

*Then he underwent an per oral Endoscopic myotomy

The procedure remains uneventful. Hardly took 45 minutes. Subsequently, he was observed for one day. Next day He was able to take a liquid diet. His symptoms like difficulty swallowing  & regurgitation resolved after per oral Endoscopic myotomy. The procedure was a little challenging Because of the post-operative anatomy of the stomach With the expertise of Dr Kapil Sharma, in this particular procedure, make this procedure very smooth and that led to prompt recovery of the patient. Barium swallow and Manometry, which got normalized after the procedure.

Achalasia cardia is a rare disorder of the esophagus characterized by the inability of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) to relax properly, which hinders the passage of food into the stomach. Additionally, the esophagus loses its normal peristaltic activity, meaning it can't move food down effectively.

Symptoms of achalasia cardia include difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), regurgitation of undigested food, chest pain, and weight loss. The exact cause of achalasia is unknown, but it is believed to involve the degeneration of nerves in the esophagus.

Diagnosis typically involves esophageal manometry, which measures the rhythmic muscle contractions of the esophagus, and imaging studies like barium swallow X-rays or endoscopy.

However in this case diagnosis and treatment was challenging

because  of the stomach sleeve which also induces some changes in the food pipe which can mimic Achalasia cardia and the stomach also makes this procedure difficult.
